The Trap Of Weight Loss Supplements

Friday, April 4th, 2008

In the hope of speeding up their metabolism, more and more people spend hundred and even thousands of dollars yearly on weight loss supplements. Often the main drive is to be attractive and accepted. Unfortunately this goal is becoming more and more difficult to achieve.

Sadly in America, more than sixty per cent of adults are overweight and thirty per cent are considered obese. This is inspite of a fitness industry which is booming and all the exercises and dieting efforts.

Many are still unable to cut that body fat, this is because: one, a lot of weight loss products promise unrealistic goals; two, some dietary supplement manufacturers rely on the overweight person’s failure to survive; and three, the information about the supplements in the market are just written by the manufacturers to make a sell.

The Food and Drug Administration has been able to successfully ban some illegal weight loss supplement marketers, unfortunately though, some of illegal products are still in the market. Some even claim to be caffeine or ephedra free. What the customers do not know is that some of these supplements contain other ingredients that may pose the same health risks, if not worse. These health risks include heart and digestive problems, headaches, insomnia, and even psychological side effects.

For most weight loss ingredients, the jury is still out. Their effectiveness in resulting to weight loss however little is still contentious. Some examples include EGCG which is a phytochemical ingredient found in green tea. This component is claimed to speed up metabolism. It has also shown the likely hood of reducing the risk of cancer.

Some studies denote that EGCG could slightly increase the potential to burn calories and now can be found in many weight loss supplements. Even though weight loss benefit could only sum up to 60 to 70 calories a day, if true, this might just help prevent excessive weight gain.

A few other significant effects of weight loss supplements is that they may contain ingredients that makers claim will prevent the absorption of carbohydrates. One good example is Chitosan, which appeared most promising, has some studies that show no positive result in fat absorption. And where it showed some result, it could even take up to seven months for men to lose just a pound of body fat; and for women, there is no fat loss at all.

Others like thyroid supplements act as thyroid replacements helping to regulate and optimize the thyroid at a higher level. This they say makes the body counter act sluggishness and lack of energy.

Since the number one reason why people eat is because they feel hungry, there is another type of ingredient that manufacturers made which increases the feeling of being full and decreases appetite, Guar Gum. However, some studies show that it has no meaningful benefit at all to weight loss.

It is ironic that some manufacturers mix Psyllium that has the reputation of reducing eating and aiding weight loss. But still initial studies so far do not support this claim although it helps control blood cholesterol and sugar.

One of the latest innovations in the fat loss industry is by way of skin absorption or transdermal delivery. There’s a gel, which is an epidril product by far the best selling in fat loss creams technology. Rub it where you want the fats cut.

For now, it will seem safer to advise the age old remedies to excessive weight gain and that is to invest on walking shoes instead of most weight loss diet supplements. Go to the park and do brisk walking, go to the gym, and have a well balanced diet instead.

Garcinia Cambogia – A Natural Weight Loss Supplement

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Garcinia cambogia extract is quickly becoming a popular ingredient in many weight loss supplements. Many studies have been pointing to strong possibilities that it will help some people to lose weight. But like similar studies, the evidence is not conclusive. Inspite of this it is been cited in many weight loss supplements as been an active ingredient for losing weight.

Garcinia cambogia belongs to the citrus family like oranges and lemons. It is a small tropical fruit that is too sour to eat but the rind is used as a spice in Indian cooking. It is indigenous to India and Africa. The active ingredient usually accredited for weight loss in this fruit is its extract, hydroxycitric acid.

Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) unlike caffeine is not a stimulant. Neither is it an appetite suppressant, both of which work directly on the nerve centers of the brain. Both stimulants and appetite suppressants can have undesired side effects, including causing food binges any time you stop taking them.

Instead, HCA satisfies the body’s need for energy and improves the signaling system that the body uses to tell the brain when it has eaten enough. In overweight people this response is often delayed, causing them to continue to eat more than they need.

HCA seems to work best for people who overeat when they are anxious or stressed, as it will give the same calming effect that they get from food. Generally you do not need to eat any special foods when you are taking HCA, and there are no ‘forbidden foods’. Choose healthy foods and you should find that you lose weight and fat slowly but steadily without really trying. You can take slightly smaller portions if you wish and choose fruit instead of sugary snacks but you should not need to go hungry. This is a very natural way to lose weight.

Garcinia cambogia extract (HCA) in weight loss supplements is usually combined with chromium. Chromium is a mineral that is often lacking in our diets as we get older and a chromium deficit can contribute to weight gain and possibly diabetes. HCA and chromium seem to work in a positive synergy to regulate the body’s blood sugar levels. However if you have diabetes already, you should see your doctor before taking any products containing chromium.

Though HCA shows possibilities it is best to be cautious just like with all other weight loss supplements. For example do not take HCA if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Consult a doctor before giving it to children. You may also want to avoid HCA if you suffer from migraine or arthritis which can be worsened by citrus fruits.

HCA has some significant advantages over many other weight loss supplements ingredients because it has been extensively tested in research laboratories on both human and animal subjects and no side effects have been found. Consequently it is considered a natural weight loss supplement. It is available from many sources online and may be labeled either hydroxycitric acid or garcinia cambogia extract.

Super CitriMax Weight Loss Tablet

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Millions of people are still looking for miracle products that would help them combat their weight loss problems. This is why there are thousands of weight loss supplements and diet pills promising overnight results. Dropping those extra pounds is very hard so people take products that would provide an extra boost. One of those supplements is the Super CitriMax weight loss tablet.

Super CitriMax(R), InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ patented weight loss ingredient.
CitriMax is an extract from Garcinia cambogia, a South Asian fruit. It contains Hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which has been found to boost metabolism, block deposits of fat, and contain appetite.

Super CitriMax works without stimulating the central nervous system, so it does not cause changes in heart rate and blood pressure or interfere with sleep, as do many popular diet aids such as caffeine and ephedra. Super CitriMax is a safe, all-natural dietary ingredient available in a variety of quality weight loss products.
Take note, however, of the difference between CitriMax and Super CitriMax. The latter has a higher percentage of HCA that can be absorbed by our body better.
Since it all-natural, Super CitriMax does not pose the risk of harmful side effects like insomnia, nervousness, and rapid heart rate. But even if a product is safe, it does not necessarily mean that it is effective.

So the question is: does Super CitriMax actually work?

As with any weight loss process, you still have to exercise and watch your diet. However, taking a supplement such as Super CitriMax will help speed up this process. The product works by blocking the enzymes that convert carbohydrates into stored fat. It also helps your body store your energy in the form of glycogen. This will then turn off the hunger signals from our brain.

Clinical studies reveal that Super CitriMax weight loss tablets are safe and effective. The results of the studies show that it naturally suppresses the appetite and inhibits the storage of fat without having any effect on our nervous system. Moreover, Super CitriMax weight loss tablet increases the levels of serotonin in our brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that affects appetite control, mood, and sleep. Many emotional dieters have, in fact, reported that Super CitriMax has helped them decrease their cravings for fatty foods when they are emotionally unstable. In addition, they felt an increase in energy as well as experienced better moods and sleep patterns.

Eight-week clinical studies show that using Super CitriMax allowed the male and female test subjects to reduce their appetite, burn fat, and reduce weight as much as three times greater than those who were merely on dieting and exercise. They were also able to keep healthy cholesterol levels throughout the duration of the study.
